About standardization

Standards are normative documents (ND) that establish uniform terms, rules, control and testing methods, and labeling requirements.

According to the Law of Ukraine “On Standardization” and in accordance with Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 1163-r dated 26.11.2014, in Ukraine, the functions of the national standardization body have been performed by SE UkrNDNC (until January 3, 2015 – the Ministry of Economic Development) since January 3, 2015.

In accordance with international practice, European and Ukrainian legislation, the subjects of standardization are technical committees for standardization.

A technical committee for standardization (hereinafter referred to as TC) is a form of cooperation between interested legal entities and individuals with the aim of organizing and performing work on international, regional, and national standardization in specific areas of activity and for established objects of standardization.

The powers of the TC include:

  • participation in the work of relevant technical committees for standardization of international and regional standardization organizations;
  • development and approval of national standards, codes of established practice, and amendments thereto;
  • participation in the formation of a national standardization work program;
  • verification and review of national standards and codes of established practice, which they develop;
  • approval and submission of proposals for the repeal and renewal of national standards, codes of established practice, and amendments thereto.

TCs also provide explanations on the provisions of national standards and codes of practice.

The provisions on TCs, their structure and composition are approved by the national standardization body. The organizational support for the activities of technical committees for standardization and subcommittees within their structure is provided by their secretariats.
